The 1971 cult classic Harold and Maude is a beautiful film about love, death obsession and trying to find your way in life. Directed by Hal Ashby, young Harold (Bud Cort) lives a charmed life, but is obsessed with faking his death to raise the ire of his rich mom who would rather buy her son expensive cars and find a suitable wife for him then spend time with him or listen to what he needs and wants. That changes when Harold meets the free-loving Maude (Ruth Gordon) who has lived a life Harold can only dream of. She's 60 years older than Harold but he finally finds someone he can relate to. With a soundtrack filled with wonderful Cat Stevens songs, Harold & Maude is a favorite amongst a few PHX Film Collective members. Maude: " Everyone has the right to make an ass out of themselves. You just can't let the world judge you too much." Harold & Maude producer Charles Mulvehill and actress Shari Summers will join PHX Film Collective for a Q&A after the film. Mulvehill and Summers met during filming and have been married since. Summers was one of the girlfriends Harold's mom tried to set him up with. Both Charles and Shari live in Phoenix. They volunteer with the Mayday Pit Bull Rescue & Advocacy nonprofit organization in Phoenix and a donation will be made to the group to thank them for joining us.
