"Dog was down and twitching in kennel. Could not get up or move. Trembling/shaking. Lifted head but would not move otherwise. Believed to be pain induced, not contagion."

These were the medical notes on this beautiful girl at the shelter that broke our hearts and compelled us to take action if only to end her suffering. Suffering does not discriminate...and although she is not a pit bull, she has the heart of one!

We did multiple MRIs which showed substantial damage. At only 11 months old, she has a very long road ahead of her. But we and our vets agree, she will have quality of life.

The break in her spine is severe. Her hindquarters and pelvis are basically separated from the rest of her spine and 3/4 inch lower than the rest of her spine. It is a miracle she survived such a severe break.

The fact that she is getting some functioning/feeling back means that the spinal cord may be stretched vs. severed so there is a chance she will be able to walk again.

On Halloween night, this small stray darted onto the freeway and was hit by at least 3 cars.  Some good Samaritans saved her and rushed her to the vet but the vet soon realized that she was in very bad shape.  She had multiple lacerations to the bone, three broken ribs, two collapsed lungs, a dislocated hip and a torn trachea.  She had a chest tube put in and remained in ICU for 16 days.  We almost lost this beautiful baby but she survived and became our newest Mayday miracle!  She is now doing great but still has a long road ahead of her.  She needs surgery to repair her dislocated hip.  We are raising funds for that surgery while we allow her to get healthy enough to undergo surgery.  If you would like to donate towards her care, please use the Donate button on this page or send your donation to:

Mayday Pit Bull Rescue Donation Spotlight - Brooklyn

When we took little Brooklyn in she was paralyzed from the neck down due to lesion on her spine caused by Valley Fever.  There was a chance that she would never walk again.  But this little fighter showed us she was not ready to give up.  With the help of medication, she was finally able to walk and she hasn't looked back since.  She continued to get stronger and stronger and now looks and acts like any other healthy, happy puppy.  But up until recently, she had still been reliant on steroids to help her walk.  We tried to taper her off on several occasions but each time she regressed back into semi-paralysis.

We are now happy to report that we have successfully tapered Brooklyn off of the prednisone.  She has been prednisone free for over 60 days now with no change in her functioning.  In fact, she has continued to gain strength and mobility.  This is such a huge step for her.  Staying on the Prednisone would have eventually caused damage to her organs.  Also, now that she is off of the medication, she can get spayed which puts her one step closer to being adoptable.  This little girl has been an inspiration to us since the moment we saw her beautiful face and she teaches us lessons about strength and perseverance every day.

Parker's Gift

Mayday Pit Bull Rescue - Donation Spotlight - Parker

For the 3rd year in a row, Parker requested donations instead of gifts for her birthday.  She presented us with her donation at our benefit concert.

This special girl has helped us save the lives of these dogs with every birthday and we cannot thank her enough!

Parker, you are an example for all of us and you inspire us to do more every day!

If Parker can do it, why can't you?
